As those who may have seen in my very first article on January 3rd about who I thought the future of the Patriots was going to be, one of the six quarterbacks I had listed was Mac Jones. Today the Patriots selected Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

While many expected Mac Jones to go as early as third overall to the San Francisco 49ers, Bill Belichick stayed pat at fifteen and waited for his guy. Mac is coming off a season in which he put up 4500 yards, and threw 41 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions. Jones was a heisman finalist before losing to his teammate DeVonta Smith.
The two time National Champion looks to fit in well in a Patriots offense that relies on good reads and getting the ball out quick, Mac is a classic pocket passer which sits well with New England fans after watching the scrambler experiment fail in 2020. Mac is known to have incredible reads on defenses and a great ability to react. While Mac may not start his first season with the Patriots due to Cam Newton resigning, Jones will definitely be looking to get some opportunities during the season.
Going forward Jones will have Hunter Henry and Jonhu Smith to throw to at the tight end position after signing deals with the Patriots this offseason. Damien Harris, Mac Jones former teammate at Alabama, will also be taking a big role in the backfield after his breakout season last year. Harris expressed his joy about being teamed up with Mac again.
