We have seen many crazy things in Major League Baseball this season, starting with the lockout, to the Yankees on pace for 120 wins through 70 games. Throughout the season many prospects get called up as well we have seen the number one prospect in all of baseball Adley Rustchman make his debut for the Orioles, number two prospect Bobby Witt Jr has had a great season with the Royals, and sometimes you see prospects you have never heard of such as Jeremy Pena come seemingly out of nowhere and become a rookie of the year candidate, and the Phillies just called up someone that many may not know the name of.
According to the Athletic, the Phillies have called up former seventeenth overall prospect (Major League Baseball rankings) Mark Appel. Mark Appel was drafted with the first overall pick in 2013 by the Houston Astros, one pick ahead of Kris Bryant.. Appel has bounced around the minor leagues for the last nine seasons playing for the Astros and eventually being a part of the Ken Giles trade, sending him to Philadelphia, and had been considered the biggest bust in baseball history, being one of only three players taken first overall to not make the major leagues, but now at age 30 he has his chance to shine.
Appel took time off between the 2018 and 2021 seasons due to injuries in his shoulder after injuring his labrum and rotator cuff.
Appel tweeted his thanks for finally being able to live out his dream of being a Major League Baseball player.
Completely overwhelmed. I have so many thoughts I want to share but can’t find the words, so I’ll just say this:

I’m thankful.
Today, I get to play a game I love as a Major League Baseball player.
LET’S GOOOOO @PHILLIES!!!!
The Phillies are currently in the middle of a series against the San Diego Padres and it is unknown if Appel will make a spot start or come out for relief out of the bullpen, but either way it will be an emotional game when Appel finally makes his debut.
