After starting off the second half very disappointingly, losing the division lead to the Tampa Bay Rays, there has been little to cheer about for the Boston Red Sox. Yet the Red Sox have bounced back and hit their stride in September going 13-6, and taking a two game lead on the Yankees for the first wild card spot. The Sox are currently on a seven game winning streak after completing a sweep of a two game series against the Mets last night, sweeping the Orioles, and taking the final two from the Seattle Mariners. While statheads say that the recent Red Sox success is due to the starting rotation stepping up, Xander Bogaerts and the rest of the Red Sox have said otherwise.

Yes, you read that right, Bogaerts credited the Red Sox win streak to the city connect jerseys. After deciding to wear them for a weekend series against the Orioles the Red Sox are now 5-0 in September, and 6-2 overall with the Nike city connect jerseys. Bogaerts and Cora have hinted that the Red Sox will stick with the yellow jerseys for as long as they are on this win streak. It all comes back to the saying “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, and the Red Sox are living by that, Red Sox ace, Chris Sale has said that he and the team love the jerseys and their meaning.

In the last home series of the season, the Red Sox will look to keep the win streak alive. The Red Sox will have Eovaldi, Pivetta, and Rodriguez starting those games, all who have pitched well as of late. With the Yankees trailing the Red Sox in the standings by only two games, this weekend’s series could decide where the wild card game will be played and possibly may show a preview of the wild card matchup to see who will get the play the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
