All that was needed was the 451 foot home run from Devers on Sunday to beat Gerrit Cole and the Yankees to complete the sweep of the Bronx Bombers. The Red Sox ended up winning 9-2, which was the ugliest of the three losses for the Yankees of the series. The Red Sox are currently 6-0 against the Yankees this year after sweeping them once in the Bronx and now at home.

A few notable things happened this weekend starting with Dustin Pedroia giving the Red Sox star an official send off after retiring in the offseason due to injuries that have been lingering since 2017.

During the games, the most notable was the work of Garrett Whitlock and Adam Ottavino. The former Yankees that were acquired this offseason (Whitlock via Rule 5 Draft, Ottavino via trade have combined for 9.2 innings pitched and have surrendered only one earned run against the Bronx Bombers this season. On Friday the duo combined for 3.0 IP and 1 hit allowed with 0 runs with Whitlock gaining the W. Keeping with the pitching, Eovalid did exceptionally well Saturday throwing 7.2 innings pitched allowing 7 hits and 1 run.

Rafael Devers led the way for the Red Sox with 3-4 day on Sunday getting 4 RBIs and cranking a 451 foot moon shot off Gerrit Cole. J.D. hit a solo shot off of Cole and Martinez continues to heat up again, and Kiké has caught fire as of late leading off the game with a home run on the first pitch the Red Sox saw in the game. Bogaerts and Renfore also continued to provide offense and Bobby Dalbec did his job getting some clutch hits and RBIs.

With 16 games remaining against the Yankees it seems impossible the Sox will sweep the Yanks for the year, but a 6-0 start to move them into first place in the American League East and bump the division rivals down to the fourth spot was a huge beginning for the Sox.
