With tonight’s win over the Washington Capitals the Bruins have reached Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Bruins will play the winner of the Islanders vs. Penguins series which is currently tied 2-2. Before previewing next series its time to look back to see what led the Bruins to all their success in round one!

MVP- While there were definitely a few options for this choice, the player who impressed me the most was Charlie McAvoy. Chuckie Bright Lights had five points in the first round of the playoffs (all assists) while playing spectacular defense. Holding Ovechkin to only two goals in the entire series the Bruins defense kept one of the biggest scoring threats in the National Hockey League in check as well as the rest of the Capitals offense, with McAvoy being a big part of that leading the Bruins in Time On Ice Per Game with 27:44.

Honorable Mentions: David Pastrnak, Taylor Hall, Brad Marchand

Best Offensive Player- Once again this was a toss up with a few goals from Marchand and Pastrnak on the first line, but ultimately I ended up with the newcomer Taylor Hall. Taylor Hall had two goals in the series both coming at needed times tying the game in Game 2 and Game 3.

Hall’s speed was a game changer, the Capitals always had to have one eye on Hall opening doors for Craig Smith and David Krecji.

Honorable Mentions: Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, David Krecji

Most Surprising- While we always expect big things from the first line we sometimes overlook the rest of the team. Craig Smith not only showed finesse, but also hustle during this series helping boost the second line. Smith showed his IQ and hustle during the double overtime winning goal in Game 3.

Smith also had two assists in the series creating chances for the Bruins to put the puck in the net.

Honorable Mentions: Mike Reilly, Jarred Tinordi, Connor Clifton

Play of the Series- Tieing the game in Game 2 Taylor Hall had an impressive finish against Samsonov.

Honorable Mention: David Pastrnak Game 5

The Bruins played really well in Round 1 and look to keep that going for the rest of the playoffs. If the defense continues to play strong in their own zone and continue distributing the puck like they have the Bruins will be a hard team to beat in a seven game series. Goalie Tuukka Rask also had a good series, making some amazing saves and making sure the Bruins always stayed in the game.
