Red Sox Debut New Jerseys

 Red Sox fans woke up happy on Tuesday morning after the Sox defeated the reigning American League Champion, Tampa Bay Rays, 11-2 to get their first win of the season. What they did not know was that morning the Red Sox would release their new City Connect jerseys. 

 

 At the beginning of last season the MLB announced that Nike would be making the jerseys for all 30 MLB teams for the next 10 years with a deal worth over a billion dollars. While many thought Nike did this just to put a swoosh on every jersey they had other plans. The Red Sox, MLB, and Nike released the City Connect jerseys. These jerseys are made to bond baseball clubs and their identities with their fans. These jerseys will be released for all 30 periodically throughout the next three seasons. 


 The first team to get these new uniforms is the Boston Red Sox. Images show a yellow jersey with blue lettering and a blue hat with the blue B logo outlined in white and yellow. While these are not normal Red Sox colors, they are the same colors as the Boston Marathon Finish Line. The Boston Marathon takes place on Patriots Day (third monday in April)  every year in Boston, and is very important to those in Massachusetts and New England. With the jerseys there is a β€œ617” patch on the left arm, in the form of a racing bib,which is the area code of Boston and Fenway Park. On the front these jerseys will feature β€œBoston” in the Boston Marathon font putting the city in City Connect. On the back just like the home jerseys of the Red Sox there will be no name and just the number of the player keeping the Red Sox tradition. 



 These new jerseys will be debuted on the weekend before Patriots day first being worn on Saturday April 17 against the Chicago Whtie Sox.
