In the afternoon on Monday, Mike Reiss reported that Julian Edelman was on the Patriots transaction list and that his contract was terminated due to a failed physical.

While many suspected he may go to another team, Julian Edelman released a statement a little bit after confirming his retirement from the National Football League.

Julian received many shoutouts from former and current teammates such as Tom Brady and Stephon Gilmore about his retirement.

โ€œI have always said I'm gonna go to the wheels go off, and they have finally fallen offโ€ said Edelman. Edelman has always held a special place in Patriots fans hearts for being a true Patriot. With no scholarships out of high school, Julian went to play Quarterback for Kent State. After it looked like he would not be drafted after not getting a combine invite, the New England Patriots drafted him in the seventh round as a wide receiver. Since then Edelman has racked up 6822 yards on 620 receptions catching 36 touchdowns, and clawed his way up through the Patriots depth chart from Punt Returner to WR1. The three time Super Bowl Champion and former Super Bowl MVP will finish his career second all time in playoff receptions and playoff touchdowns.
