George Springer and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed on a deal, and pending a physical, Springer will be heading north of the border (first reported by Brendon Kuhn). The deal is worth 150 million over the course of 6 years.
George Springer’s deal with the Toronto Blue Jays is for six years and $150 million, as @JonHeyman said. In this market, that is a massive deal. Toronto paid a premium price for a premium player.

This is a big pick up for the Blue Jays who made the playoffs last year for the first time since 2016. A team that has been rising up the ranks of the American League East now looks to contend with last year’s division winners, the New York Yankees, and American League Pennant Champion, Tampa Bay Rays. Springer who has had three top 15 MVP finishes in the last 4 years is going to be a great supplement to the young core already in Toronto, headlined by former number one prospect in baseball, Vlad Guerrero Jr. putting together all the pieces to form a scary team for the 2021 season.
Springer hit .292 with 39 home runs in 2019 and .265 with 14 home runs in 2020. While he does have the Houston Astros cheating scandal still attached to him, he was one of the first Astros players to give a genuine apology and showed in 2020 he can still be very productive even without the sign-stealing scandal. The former World Series MVP is ready to put on a show in Toronto, batting anywhere from leadoff to cleanup, Springer will be valuable offensively and defensively in the Blue Jays lineup.
This is the Blue Jays second straight season with a big free agent signing, last year signing former ERA title winner and Cy Young runner up Hyun Jin Ryu to a 4 year 80 million dollar deal. The Blue Jays seem to be making a push for the playoffs for the first time since 2016 after watching their previous stars of Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Marcus Stroman, and many more spread across the league to other teams.
