Red Sox get Adam Ottavino, Frank German and $850k from the Yankees for a player to be named later or cash.
Ottavino is a late inning arm and was amazing for the Colorado Rockies before signing a 3 year, 27 million dollar deal with the New York Yankees before the 2019 season. Ottavino had a 5.89 ERA with the Yankees in 2021. Ottavino has had multiple years recently where he had under a 2.50 ERA with 2.43 in 2018 and 1.90 ERA in 2019. He is a great addition to the back of the Red Sox bullpen that struggled last season.
Frank German is the Yankees number 24 prospect according to MLB.com. According to Jared Carrabis (via Twitter) he throws up to 98 MPH fastball and has a “nasty slider”. This pitching prospect can be very handy for the Red Sox in the near future with an expected debut of 2021.
Also, in acquiring Adam Ottavino for nothing but agreeing to take on his salary, the Red Sox got a right-handed pitching prospect by the name of Frank German who throws 98 and has a nasty slider. They basically bought a prospect and can turn Ottavino into more prospects.

This is the first trade between the Red Sox and Yankees since 2014 where Stephen Drew was traded to the Yankees for Kelly Johnson. This is only the second trade between these two teams since the turn of the century!
