Perez Day back for 2021

Written by Matt Ferreira

What felt like a national holiday, every fifth day, Perez Day was always fun in 2020. Well with the news that was broke by Ken Rosenthal earlier today the Red Sox are bringing back Martin Perez on a one year 4.5 million dollar deal for the 2021 season.

The Red Sox had declined a 6 million dollar option for the 2021 season for Perez when free agency had first started. Perez has said before that he loves the city of Boston and Red Sox fans and would like to stay. He is well liked by Red Sox fans for being a bright spot in the 2020 rotation, interacting with fans on social media, and for his famous Yankee slander on Jared Carrabis’s Section 10 podcast.

Perez had a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts for the Red Sox in 2020 which is definitely not the best in the league, but was very good for a horrendous Red Sox rotation. Perez will be asked to be taking a whole different role this year for the Red Sox. In 2020 he was the Red Sox #2 pitcher only behind Nathan Eavoldi. In 2021 Perez will be an end of the rotation guy with Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez coming back from injuries. As long as Perez can keep the Red Sox offense in games in 2021 he will remain a fan favorite!
