On December 30th Bruins captain Zdeno Chara signed with the Washington Capitals on a one year deal. Chara had been the captain of the Boston Bruins since 2006 and was a big loss for the heart of Bruins fans everywhere. This left a decision for the Boston Bruins organization on who would be wearing the C on their jersey for 2021 and beyond.
Non-surprisingly the Bruins announced on Thursday that Patrice Bergeron would be the next captain of the Boston Bruins. Bergeron has been on the Bruins since 2003 and is now the longest tenured Boston athlete after Tom Brady’s departure this summer. Bergeron is 5th all time in goals and assists in Bruins history, he also has 4 Selke awards, 1 Clancy, and won the cup with the Bruins in 2011. He is one of the most respected players around the league as not only is a playmaker and can score offensively, he is one of the best faceoff winners in the history of the league and a very good defensive player as well.
With Bergeron at captain the Bruins will look to make another cup run in 2021. Their top line of Marchand, Bergeron, and Pastrnak is one of the best lines in hockey right now and they also have tons of depth on offense with players like David Krecji, Charlie Coyle, Jake Debrusk, Andres Bjork, Craig Smith and many more. On defense the bruins have really good young stars in Charlie McAvoy, Connor Clifton, and Brandon Carlo along with some veterans such as Kevin Miller and Matt Grzelcyk. For goalies the Bruins have some of the best in the league with Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak splitting time between the pipes. The Bruins are looking to be one of the best in the league and take the NHL by storm with their new leader Patrice Bergeron.
