Cardinals Acquire Arenado

Written by Matt Ferreira

The Colorado Rockies have traded third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals. The St Louis Cardinals will be acquiring Nolan Arenado, and upwards of 50 million to pay off Arenado’s remaining 199 million dollar contract over the next six years. It is currently unclear what the Rockies will get in return for Arenado, but it is currently reported it will be multiple players.

Nolan Arenado is a five-time all star, four-time silver slugger, eight-time gold glove winner, and four-time platinum glove winner. Arenado is most known for his fielding, winning a Gold Glove in every single one of his seasons in the MLB. On top of his insane glove, Arenado has a big bat, hitting .253 with eight home runs in 2020 Arenado struggled at the plate, like many other stars in 2020. Arenado is a career .293 hitter and averages 35 home runs in a 162 game season.

Nolan Arenado will join a Cardinals team that is looking to make a deep run in the playoffs. With Paul Goldschmidt at first base, Arenado at third, Tommy Edman at second, and Paul DeJong at shortstop the Cardinals have one of the best infields in the league. While their roster is very good it will be very hard for them to make a deep playoff run in the National League with powerhouses such as the Dodgers, Padres, Braves, and Mets also making moves.
